MARC record enhancements

To support the European Accessibility Act (EAA) and enhance cataloguing and discoverability, we have introduced new metadata fields (341 and 532) that describe the accessibility features of our eBooks, enabling libraries to better serve users with access needs. Additionally, we have added 30 new library codes that link Living Reference eBook packages to standardized library codes, further improving the identification and discoverability of these dynamic resources.

Download COUNTER 5.1 reports now

Starting in January, usage data is available in COUNTER Release 5.1 format, which is the only supported version from April onward. This release introduces important updates, especially for tracking usage of Springer Nature content, outlined here. We recommend downloading sample reports now via the COUNTER 5.1 portal to get familiar with the changes. If you use the COUNTER API (SUSHI) to access reports, please ensure your system is configured to retrieve 5.1 data, even if 5.0 access is currently working.

Improved accessibility metadata for eBooks

As of 27 June 2025, Springer Nature Link displays accessibility information for eBooks in line with the European Accessibility Act. All eBooks planned or in production with publication dates after 28 June 2025 include an Accessibility Profile with format-specific summaries for PDF and EPUB. These profiles are being rolled out to titles published from 2025 back to 2022. An accessibility filter is available for easier discovery, and placeholder text is shown on titles without profiles.
